If you have ever wondered what early authentic "live" rock-n'-roll might have sounded like you might get yourself a cd of Johnny Rivers "Live at the Whiskey a Go-Go." Great live crowd sounds mixed with the music.
It reminded me of the days of music upon the roof at Lake Shafer (Joey Dee & The Starlighters) or the Barn in Whiteland, the Rustic in Jasper, Indiana (Boyd Bennett and the Rockets) or the VFW Wayne Newton Post 346 in Terre Haute, Indiana, (Noel Davenport Trio).
I was in college during those years and for me it was kinda like what Charles Dickens once said, "It was the worst of time, it was the best of times." But the music....for me it was best of times.
