My friend Marcellas, I wish you could meet him.
Marcellas has had more fastballs thrown at him than Sandy Koufax could deliver in his nine innings of pitching. But never striking out.
I met Marcellas a few years back through the efforts of a elementary school teacher, Betty, making our Bible class aware of him and his family. Thank you Betty.
Marcellas a few months back had his second kidney transplant. For years prior to this past transplant three days a week he would have to be hooked up to a kidney machine for dialysis. Four hours at a time, three days a week, a process he could not let pass by. Over the years he has had a number of health and family issues. But Marcellas is kinda like the Energizer Bunny, he has just kept going. I'm glad to say that my friend tells me now "I'm doin' good."
This morning as I sat outside at a coffee shop here in
Washington D.C. I took out my old flip phone (yes flip) and called Marcellas. With some regularity I tried to have lunch with him. I always come away encouraged and blessed by the times I talk and am with him.
He makes me more aware of the blessings I have and have had in my life. I think we all could profit, to spend some time around those who have had and still are dealing daily with health issues in their lives. There are a lot of folks out there that life is a daily struggle for them
Each week I am reminded of such friends that Barbara and I have such as Sheila, or Lisa, or Marcellas and others that have blessed us with their attitude toward their difficulties. We are blessed by their friendship.
As I said there are a lot of folks that each day have a hundred hour fastball coming at them......but never striking out.
