Just some thoughts:
We are now into a few weeks of back to school. One of the most important people in the lives of our children is a teacher. If we think back most of us were fortunate enough to have at least one or two teachers who proved to be very important in our lives. I often think of coaches that I had while growing up and also an English teacher (Mrs Riddle) and how they influenced me. Below is something that was recently shared with me by the daughter of a man I once taught and coached with, Lisa Cox. She is a teacher/counselor and a multi-talented person. Lisa and her family live in Zionsville, Indiana and is a special lady. I am glad she has allowed me to share her recent writing with you.

Grit
Little boy growing up never met his dad
Fighting on the schoolyard
Known for being bad
Had no time for wishing on lucky stars
Learned to survive the hunger stealing from the neighbors' cars
His heart was so cold heading down a dead end road
But then he found his saving grace
In just one teacher's smiling face
That told him he was good enough
And to forget his past get strong get tough
The words still echo in his mind
It took just one voice in his young life
Now he won't quit
The teacher gave him hope.
She gave him grit .
Little girl comes to school
In a dirty dress
The girls all snicker say her hair is such a mess
She has no time for thinking about making friends
Taking care of the baby
Mama's been drinking again
Her heart is so sad
So tired of being always laughed at
But then she found her saving grace
In just one teacher's smiling face
That teacher told her she was good enough
And forget her past get strong get tough
The words still echo in her mind
It took just one voice in her young life
Now she won't quit
That teacher gave her hope
She gave her grit
Just a smile, and an encouraging word, Just one time told you have worth
But then he found his saving grace
In just one teacher's smiling face
That teacher told him he was good enough
And to forget his past get strong get tough The words still echo in his mind
It took just one voice in his young life
Now he won't quit
That teacher gave him hope
She gave him grit

One of the best gifts a child, or anyone, can be given is someone believing in them and giving one hope...often that gift comes into the life of us thru a teacher. Thank you.
